I can Almost Start Taking this Personal

Mikie

Spent the night in Urgent Care last night with severe back pain. I'm talking writhing in pain, back-pain. Had to get a shot of something I can't pronounce. Still have the band aid on my azz this morning  ha ha!

I'm thinking that I'm having another bout with Shingles, unlike last time where it was the back of my whole right leg, this time it's my whole lower back, down both legs to my knees. It's a deep "growing pain" kinda nerve ache... Yuk!

Shingles causes Flu like symptoms, and since Monday I've been trying to cough junk out of my lungs and have been in and out of a fever hovering around 101 degrees. So, I'm thinking Shingles.

So the Doctor gets X-Rays of my chest and back taken last night. Chest was fine. Back? Not so much. He told me I have Scoliosis of the Spine and that there is a calcification on my L4 Lumbar (Lower Vertebrae). I took a good hit there back when I raced Moto-X when I got run over by a few bikes. Got a great scar to prove it.

So now I got to go down today and get an MRI of my back. He thinks the calcification is causing the back pain. I don't think so, but I'm not a doctor.

I guess I'm just ranting. Since I have been back on a bike, there doesn't seem to have been one "healthy year" for me.

I can almost start taking this personal.

Man, that sucks. We all hate time off of a bike. Any idea whether or not this had started last week, the onset, and maybe why you weren’t feeling well then?
Heal quickly my brother. Keep us posted.

Yeah, Shingles builds up for days in the nervous system and then turns into severe nerve ending pain which feels like muscle ache. I've been achy for weeks but did not put two and two together. So it probably did affect the ride on Saturday and possibly the ride last week in Big Bear. It sounds like a great excuse for totally sucking, so I'm going for it!

 Damn! Had to check this post twice to confirm it was you, praying it's not that bad and it will all go away! MTB won't be the same without Mikie Watson, so big time Healing vibes to you Mikie!

Sucks Mikie. It seemed you weren't feeling that good the last couple of rides and I'm glad your working towards finding out what's wrong.
Hope all goes well and you're back on the bike soon!

Alright, went to the Doc's today...
No need for an MRI and no, I don't have Shingles (the good news?)

However, upon close inspection of the X-rays it has been determined that I have 4 herniated lower disc's, a bone growth (spur) off one vertebrae bridging to the one above it, and for sure scoliosis.
And...I have the Flu.
:o Bitchen!

So now I'm on Steroids for 6 days.

Doctor says this means more stretching, more muscle strengthening, and I can't over do it like I did on the last two rides.
I gotta either quit riding with you bastages or get more training in so I don't blow myself up trying to keep up. Says if I keep it up it could become permanent. What do doctors know!!!

Steroids! May help your back but it will worsen your ongoing problem with shrinkage! Seriously, glad you found the problem so quickly and can manage the symptoms. Are you going to a physical therapist? Hope you're back in the saddle soon!

Maddog . . . I can't afford anymore shrinkage... :?

Yes to the Physical Therapist...
Doc says no bikes for two weeks . . . I'm planning on riding tomorrow...

Ah yes, Mr. Watson... I am prescribing you LSD; 1time per week. Now this is a powerful remedy and must be taken exactly as directed. A single dose will last 2-3 hours at a consistent slow-pace release. This may result in boredom, temporary loss of attention span, and sudden urges to listen to miley cyrus and justin bieber tunes - my associate, Dr Hill^Billy can recommend suitable antidotes to this. Avoid elevation (up and especially down) while taking this medication as it can lead to thoughts of speed and delusions of Cat 1 victories past.

Do not take with will-d. willi-d combines with LSD eliminating its slow release properties. the will-d, normally effective in fast acting situations, will break down and result in joint dislocation, pain, and loss of skin. Avoid taking this medication with any other dirt bags; unless they are pre-vaporated by Dr.'s Rossage and or HotRod. Dirtbags not properly pre-treated have been known to cause injury, pain, or death! If you experience a grin lasting more than four hours, see your LBS immediately as this could be life changing!

1-2 short fun rides mid-week can also be therapeutic. However those are to be taken with caution, as they could cause over-excitement leading to an excess of speed. Pre-consultation with Dr's HotRod and Rossage is recommended.

Will-D, upon reading this all I could do was this:
That's a classic that just can't sit just here...

hurry up and (slowly) get better my friend.

Heal up Mikie! You are not just trying to find an excuse... Are you?
Dr. Willi-D just moved up on my list of friends. Sounds like he really knows what he's talking about.
