Holy Jim Volunteer Chief Dies

I did have the opportunity to meet Mike a few times, the first of which was even before I got back into riding. Hiking with a friend in Holy Jim, who was an acquaintance from their outside jobs. I remember him saying Mike would be "gruff". He was... But he also delighted in giving us a tour of his property, and a lesson on the surrounding forest.

Mike's passing is a loss to the canyon community, and to those of us who venture up in those mountains...

Rest In Peace, Mike...

Mike was one of the reasons we kept the roads leading to the trails in good shape. During the big rain year (El Niño) he was one of the only people allowed back there because he lived there full-time. He got trapped at home for a period of time and I recall reports of emergency crews having to chopper in supplies to him. He was always kind to me whenever I would pass his home on the way up Holy Jim. RIP MIKE.
