Hello! New Here

Cornholio

iMTB Rockstah
Hey everyone.. New here but not a new rider. I ride Santiago Oaks a lot since I live next to it but like to ride all over. Nice to find a So Cal forum!

“I am the Great Cornholio, I need T.P. for my bunghole”
Man I loved that show. Even named one my old wiener dog Beavis and it was oh so fitting for his personality.
Welcome, I think you'll like it here...

Now this has to be a real person - and a mt. biker. Welcome Cornholio! The last few people who have "joined" have been spammers, so we are all a bit suspicious these days. Great handle and matching Avatar.

Where and what do you ride? XC grinds? DH madness? Mixture?

Edit: oops, I just read your initial post a little closer. Santiago Oaks. Sounds like an AM guy (all-mountain/trail/enduro/riding). I tend to hang out near the coast at Aliso or LCWP/ElMoro. Plenty to ride down here, but great stuff in Santi Oaks as well. Many of the riders on this forum are from the great northland (LA, Santa Clarita, Antelope Valley, Palmdale, Inland Empire, etc). As I am sure you have read, many IMTB guys (and girls) love rides of epic proportions - long miles and long days in the saddle. A few of us require some DH fun to reward our climbing efforts, and stuff our rides into 1-3 hour blocks of time when we can.

Let me know if you want to hit some Aliso stuff. As some on this forum will tell you, I ride there too much.

Welcome!!

Please have a sense of humor - it's a must if you're going to survive this site.

I'm a former Oaks rider (god how I miss it) but live in the Murrieta area now. Great stuff out here, come check it out when you can - don't be a Herz. (Haha...I'm yanking your chain Herz...relax)!!

Haha, I definitely have a sense of humor (see user name/avatar). I'm easy going and don't take the Internet too serious but also don't act like a jerk with keyboard courage so I should get along fine. My wife is pregnant with our first child so I am working on my "dad humor" as well.

As far as my riding, I guess I am just a trail rider (XC mixed in with all mountain stuff) and I ride a RIP9. I ride alone 90% of the time since I just go when I can after work, which is why it's nice to be able to pedal to Oaks. My rides are usually just around an hour on weekdays since I work long hours and need to be home for dinner! I used to ride El Morro/Laguna/Aliso more when I lived at the beach so I am very familiar with those trails too. On weekends I like to do Old Camp/Luge, Holy Jim, Black Star type stuff and have done a few rides in the San Gabs/Santa Monica mountains. Ok, I'll shut up now.. Thanks again for the warm welcome!

Sounds legit....you can stay, hah hah!
Welcome to imtbtrails future dad!

I live on the other side of the galaxy in Frazier Park...far far away...

This may be the hardest thing I've ever had to say in public... Rox is right. :(

I don't leave my little nest very often to ride. That's partly why I chose to live where I do - good mtb and surfing close by, coastal climate, etc. You will never run out of challenging trails in Laguna, which may explain why many of MtB's gravity royalty have relocated there. However, the best DHer in the world lives in Rox' neighborhood (Temecula, actually), so she's not hurting for challenging trails either.

I do love real mountain biking (like, in the mountains), so I've been known to hit up Big Bear, Whistler, Utah or Colorado from time to time. I also hit the Whiting-STT-Luge area frequently, and occasional rides in Santiago Oaks. I've never had much interest in long gravel grinder fire-roads like Blackstar, Harding and Pain Divide.

So - that said, link up with some IMTB peeps for some rides! There are some Big Bear adventures, both XC and DH variety, lots of rides north of LA and a few around here. Seems like most IMTBers ride alone 90% of the time, as you do, and at least half ride 29ers too. Most IMTBers don't like assembling huge groups for rides, but we all like riding with a few friends and new acquaintances. I suggest riding with Faust29 or mtnbikeJ for starters!

You do want him to come back...right? :o

  After thumbing through the "I ride my bike today thread" it's obvious to me that I have a lot of work to do in regards to my "longer" rides. I'd be a drag for a lot of you.. It takes me about an hour and a half to climb to Old Camp from the STT gate, for example (for those who know that ride). And that ride is one of the bigger rides I do. I guess part of my problem is that I ride alone so often that I don't get out on longer rides more often, I need to push myself at oaks more. Although a 10 mile ride is always better than no miles at all!

Not trying to be right; your RR's were getting a lil redundant and look what you did, you created: I rode my bike today ...

Brilliant!!

What's that saying: Behind every man is a great woman.

Now shall we put that ugly exchange behind us and get on w our lives?? Thank you berry much ...

My ride reports are still redundant, but redundancy builds fluency! Luckily, I have a place to put my redundant musings with no expectation from readers that they would be anything but redundant! (See how I used redundant five times in this post? Ironic, eh?)

We still need a "cheers" emoticon...

Cheers!

Haha!!

Redundancy builds complacency, boredom and lack of challenge. But that's my book not yours.

I honestly don't care you ride those trails over and over again, just don't put down people who see it differently.

Some mtbers only have access to FLoop and yet you snub your nose at it. I was just pointing out the hypocrisy.

Salude!

There's a difference between criticizing a trail and criticizing people for riding it. I don't believe I criticize people for riding anything, anywhere (unless the person is a constant braggard). I have a long track record of complimenting anybody and everybody for getting out and riding. Admittedly, I do poke fun at trends.

This thread's been hijacked!

Cornholio - I highly recommend riding with Rox. She keeps her stoke meter at 11. She is a bit shy, so you will need to prompt her to talk.

I'm open to different lengths, and different paces... I ride alone the vast majority of the time, but I like small groups. :-) I'm going to give the hand another week or so before I get back on dirt, and I'll probably start with something "smooth" like Blackstar. I learned my lesson- rebroke it twice trying to ride too soon. But the worst part was the wife saying, "I told you so, Dummy!"

I'm a small group type of guy myself, never understood the big group of 20+ riders thing I occasionally come across on the trails. The Rwanda ride this year was the most people I've been around on a ride, besides OTH races of course. Other than those situations the most people I've ridden with this year was 4 (including me) out in AZ in January. I'm always down for a Saturday morning Black Star session so if next Saturday is the beginning of your riding recovery let me know.

And I agree with Herz, there should be a 'cheers' emoticon. Friday is finally here and it's beer o'clock! 8-)

Unigeezer!! Remember??...….

Note: I don't believe he was a braggard but proud of what he could do on a unicycle. I applaud him ...
