It's sad that so many bike shops are having such significant thefts. In this case, for the cost of the stolen items (7 bikes, shocks, iPad, etc.), GG could have put in a solid security system and done 'target hardening' that would have made it very difficult to steal their merchandise. Of course, thieves can get around almost any system with enough time and effort, but bike shops should really consider how to best prevent these crimes and make their bike shops look like bad targets. Also, a good reminder to all of us to keep our bikes safe--mine stays locked inside and is right next to my German Shepherd's bed

A friend of mine owned a bike shop that was broken into MULTIPLE times. Every time, it added more and more hardening. Every time, they still broke in. The last one I remember, a pick up back up to the doors, two people jumped out and wrapped a chain around the handles, and ripped the doors off. Then used cable cutters to cut the locks off a few bikes and tossed them in the back of the truck.It's sad that so many bike shops are having such significant thefts. All of it was recorded from multiple angles. No one was caught, no bikes were recovered. Most of the break ins were well planned out.
The thefts that were poorly planned were minor. Break in right after they opened where someone stole a cheap BMX bike, but ignored the brand new high end bike still in the box right next to the back door they broke in to. And a couple (few?) who stole bikes on test rides in the parking lot, most of those were recovered.
