Grizzly 100 NUE/ Terrible 10,000`

I spent probably 20 minutes at the Pioneertown turnaround talking about this one with one of the event organizers... :-)

The Grizzly 100 NUE is a race, but there is also a Terrible 10,000 "ride" on the same course... I will keep an eye on this one.

The pic of the rider on the link kinda says it all. Holy Toledo, Batman.

You would look like that too if you just realized that you bought a bike that only came with half a fork.

The race looked interesting.....but I don't like to race.

The Terrible 10,000' Ride sounds like a good one.....would like to see the route for sure.

This was how that race/epic went for me last year:

Cool, bordering on cold in the morning with the climb up to the ridge line and to the trail of Seven Oaks...which I'd never been on. Legit, loose, fun, sketchy, sunny, just what you want after the initial climb.

By far the best part was doing SART...twice.

By far the worst part was Radford...not too many people ride the whole thing anyway, and it went from brutal heat at the base to a little bit of rain at the top.

Rolling Skyline east to west on the edge of exhaustion was interesting, mostly an exercise in avoiding a recurrence of the Radford Cramps.

If you're sketchy about doing the full 100k, they offer shorter loops in "Gran Fondo" mode. Support was awesome, enthusiastic, and there was plenty of ice and water...even cake at the very bottom of Radford.

One or more of the original layouts kept going on SART on the Post Office Loop portion past Middle Control Road and then somehow working back to Radford via one giant loop. Anyway the new course lays out...its a full day of suffering and fun.

Just do it.

I'm in! [emoji33] [emoji27] [emoji102] Damn raffle prizes anyway!

That's a big nope from me. VQ will be the hardest thing I tackle this year, and that's going to be a struggle for me given how the Pioneertown ride went!

I was considering the Grizly 100 last year but kinda got intimidated. This year I'm seriously thinking about it againg. It's a 100 kilometers right? Not 100 miles.

Yes 100k with 10k ft climbing the worst of the climbs near the end! ;(

Yeah, only 62 miles. And only 10,000 feet of climbing. ;) Given that this is only 2 weeks after Crusher, I'm most likely gonna sit this one out.

I couldn't find out on their website if the Terrible 10,000, costs the same as the Grizzly 100. Does anyone know?

Per Active.com it is $130 for the Terrible 10,000

Not sure if I can make it happen, but I'm presently in negotiations with my significant other about this event. :D

I was thinking about Terrible 10,00 but that is more than what spend on a race. Where does the money go?

Uh....really? (Facepalm)

I had some more here, but in the interest of civility, and knowing this is after a few beers, I deleted most of it.

However, internet + research + time would point out the folly of your question.

Or, you could find a promoter that makes a living doing this...oh wait, that doesn't exist unless you own the TDF.

Rant over.

Hey, it's your money and you'll spend it on whatever you want.
I'm not going to pay $130 on a couple of energy bars and bottles of water. Which is basicly all I'm getting back. "Expiriences"- you might say. - Well I get those everytime I get my leg over my bike, without having to pay for it.
If that question gets you ranted. You do need more beers.

Bait taken.
Required insurance. Required fees from the jurisdictions involved. Equipment rentals. That number plate. Finisher buckle. Staffing requirements by insurance and jurisdictions that must be paid, certified individuals. Support for not only those participating, but for those volunteering.
Nobody's making you enter it.
If all you can do is question the cost and what little you think you get out of it, by all means leave the thread alone and lets get back on topic...this is the "Go Speed Racer" Forum.

For those that choose to enter the 100k (or any distance), its an opportunity to try something you might not otherwise do, and do so with a great safety net of organizers and fellow riders along the entire way. I choose to enter.

Note that in 10 days, the price does increase $10 across the board for all events. I look forward to the reveal of the new 100k route.

This is kind of disappointing.....the price is gonna go up, yet they still have not revealed the course. Personally, it won't affect my choice to do the event, but these are the kind of things that should have been ironed out and the info given to the riders.

And I'm still in negotiations with my wife! Not having a set route weakens my position at the bargaining table! ;)

It would help! She worries enough without adding unknown variables...

Route is close to being posted...as its all but approved but the smoke and some trail/access closures from the fire delayed some things. Unofficially, but likely to be official is that the route will do a good portion of Skyline at the top, then do the loop like last year down Seven Oaks, up the road to the top of SART, down SART to Middle Control, down Middle Control and up Radford, down the eastern leg of Skyline down to where the Kenda Cup starts, back up to where we joined Skyline at the top of Radford, the full Skyline to the west, then some other variations of singletrack and fire road to get to the 100k distance/10k of climbing.

More Skyline and having Radford in the middle rather than the end is a bonus.

What really bites... Having the ok from the wife, and not being sure if the broken finger will be well enough by then. :(

Course posted last week...gonna be awesome. One finger braking is ok, but no brakes is even faster.

Still on the fence about this one.

Want to do it....sounds like a fun route....save for Radford TT. Sounds like you hit it just past the midway point.

I would be a definite, if it weren't for the hand! I'm going to try and ride a couple times this week, and see how it goes...
