Gerry shorts...

If you’re not the type that is worried to much about brand related fashion/image while riding your bike, you make like these Gerry shorts that are available at Costco for a whopping $14.99!! I bought one pair to try them out based on another riders recommendation and now I’m hooked. They are lightweight, comfy, have a lil’ stretch to them and aren’t crazy baggy. As you can see in the photos, they have a waist adjustment which comes in handy mid ride as you start sweating and they stretch out a touch.

I’ve always been a Club Ride shorts fan and have 3 pairs that I’ve had for 3-5 years. I NEVER use the chamois that come with shorts and even w/o the chamois, MTB shorts are probably averaging $75 a pair. I bought 4.5 pairs of the Gerry for that price and I like them every bit as much. They currently have 4 colors...black, tan, charcoal grey and a Carolina Panther blue.

In the photos, they might look like standard cotton shorts but they are much lighter like any other MTB short and dry out quickly. The outer shell is 97% nylon and 3% spandex. They run true to size as I’m all too aware since I use every mm on the 36” waist model.

I'm liking where you are going with this! But I gotta ask in public...
You do not wear a chamois? Period? I'm okay with that, just asking. Do you wear anything under them?
I would actually like to become more... ah hemmm, fashionable, but most baggies are too hot! And they slip down when climbing and I don't want to share my plumbers crack. More detail my good man!

TFPU. Looks like they have 2 models to choose from, but the charcoal color is no longer offered (bummer). @mtbMike , did you get it in the store or online order?

@Mikie, I just did GMR last weekend and never realized my buddy also doesnt use a liner or any form of chamois. I thought everyone did. I guess his taint is tougher than everyone elses???

I guess another question I have being a lycra guy is the concern of baggies getting caught up on the nose of my saddle. I'm sure everyone has experienced that one!
I have had regular cargo (non mtb) shorts have that problem back in the early 90s. Similar to RWS, no mtb baggies have ever got caught up on the nose of the saddle.

@Mikie....I wear quality road bike chamois, specifically Pearl Izumi stuff. With my current Club Ride short, they fit great at the begging of the ride but get baggy as the day progresses and I've caught the bagginess on the nose of my saddle more than once but it hasn't created a hazard. I have not caught the saddle nose with these new shorts yet but they aren't as baggy, but they aren't tight either, a happy medium.

@SnakeCharmer...I think "Jerry" but that's my assumption

@Poofighter...I bought tan and blue ones in the store (in Vista, CA) and the charcoal and black online. I have the cheaper 'Venture' model....

Regarding the no chamois thing though, I thought/assumed *everybody* wore chamois' as well but then somebody starts thread on MTBR about that and there are 100's of people who don't. I couldn't even imagine that concept. I did have a couple buddies that were still wearing their BVD's under their chamois until they started riding with me and I got them squared away.

Gwin. Southridge. Can’t wait for my subscription!
Wait - I must have posted this before. No way you would have know it was Gwin otherwise. Congratulations! :) @Mikie, please put Brett's subscription on my bill.

I was gonna say "one guy went on to win 5 out of 7 World Cup DHs that year (and 5 overall World Cups) and the other went on to set records for most posts on IMTBTrails."

Equal accomplishments in mountain biking, I would say!:cool:

@Mikie key is fit not getting hung up is the crotch is cut a little bit closer on mountain bike shorts other words not normal cargo baggy low hanger.. Warned a kid just a couple weeks ago that was wearing workout jams that that he pay for it when he got hung up on the saddle... Just a matter of time.
Other shorts that work... board shorts with like lycra underneath more than once. Very picky about my shorts and my lycra ride a lot of Club Ride some of their newer shorts are really good stay up well

Okay!
Don't have a heart attack...
I bought some of these and wore them on a ride last night with Cathy...
 I liked them a lot!

Now I did not wear your typical roadie Pearl Izumi Attack Lycra pants under them. I have a pair of Peral Izum baggies I bought a while ago that came with an insert. The insert is made mostly of mesh and VERY light weight. I rode up at my house where it was cooler and even then they were still a little warm, but doable. The crotch of the pants were completely out of the way from sliding on and off the saddle. I was quite impressed actually. Especially for 12 bucks! I asked Cathy to order several pairs.

Now don't think you are always going to see me in some baggies cuzz I definitely prefer Pearl Izumi Attacks. But I will be wearing them on occasion!
Never thought I would ever say THAT! o_O
