For Tom the Bomb re: Dodger #39 joke

Gonna tell the whole 'joke' so it makes some sense.

Wife is Asian, introduced me to Doraemon, a Japanese cartoon that's been first-run longer than Simpsons. So I buy some Doraemon stickers on Amazon so I can distribute liberally in public places (sticker s#!+ everywhere!).

One of the stickers is Doraemon the cat, playing baseball, blue uniform, old school button-top cap. He's hitting, has that 'tongue out' sweaty look. I find myself on the closed portion of CA-39, above the Crystal Lake turn-off, taking a break at a viewpoint. Next to me is a highway marker, "LA 39" in bold letters, 'cept the 'LA' looks arranged like the Dodgers logo, L above A. I slap the Doraemon homerun on the mile marker, feel really satisfied and giggle a bit, ride on up the road.

Some weeks later, I'm doing the same loop, so I decide to check on the sticker. It's gone. Not just the sticker, but the whole dang mile marker! Stolen!

Later that year, at thanksgiving, I'm describing my clever antic to my uncle Andy McCue, who wrote a book on Walter O'Malley. He gives me a dry, knowing stare as I speak. When I finish, he informs me that 39 was Roy Campanella's number.

It's a mille strati of meta... :geek:
