Hey hey... haven't got names straight, won't until our Fearless Leader posts a group pic. We were speaking about Islip Ridge, here's the link:

Yes, grandiose name. This loop can be started at top or bottom, and there are variations. No slabs or 'features' but an amazing journey down the ridge. It's almost all rideable, no portages on the descent, but tight switchbacks in some places.
 
I've seen the Windy Gap trail from South Mount Hawkins lookot road.

I would NOT call that anything less than brutal. But that's just me. :whistling:
It is indeed the more difficult option, I end up pushing half of it. But I can't legally recommend the easier, much easier, Sunday cruise up the old, closed CA-39, even though it's much easier, makes the logistics of the loop better, and it's easier. Hawkins Rd has gone feral, wouldn't ride with an electric fat bike. :laugh:
