e-Bike burns down a house.

As much as I dislike e mt bikes, I think it sucks that a product left to charge overnight self combusts.

The story was a little short on details, but the fire department left some clues like "only use the OEM charger", etc, which suggests that perhaps something wasn't 100% kosher. I don't know this... just saying.

I saw that and the "ensure damaged battery packs are fixed by an authorised repairer."

One of my buddies in Chicago called it "Jewish lightning". He happened to be Jewish... which was the only thing that kept my eyes from popping out of my head

li-ion batteries need compression. weird but true. if they loose compression they can start a fire. That is bad because once started they have all the pieces of the triangle to keep burning. The Boeing 787 has a solution, they put a vent to the outside so a fire does not compromise the airframe.
