Dirt mileage for the year?

Did anyone ride more dirt than they drove/rode in a motorized vehicle on pavement this year?

I probably only racked up 1500-2000 miles this year on dirt. September was my biggest month by far, followed by October, March, and April. If I add my commuter miles, and miles gained from riding to and from the trailhead, I would've beat my driving mileage, as I used my car as a hauler, more than a commuter, opting to go by bike if feasible. Maybe I'll try to do some night rides again, as a way to experience the dirt some more, or plan some solo/duo epics that I did last year. Maybe Loch Leven to Southfork and back... just wondering to myself, after hearing some guys breaking 6k, 10k, or more miles, who I assume are possibly retired.

Good one-

Not me however, As im acclimating to my new terrain. Maybe next year i can make a dent on my new town.. Weak for me this year.

Year-to-Date
Distance 3,089.4 mi
Time 188h 35m
Elev Gain 210,860 ft
Rides 135

All-Time
Distance 6,551.1 mi
Rides 344
Biggest Ride 66.6 mi
Biggest Climb 4,811 ft

That would be really cool if I could do that.....but since I drive about 15,000 miles a year for work, it would have to be a really really big year on the bike.

Don't have a road bike, so all my mileage for the year is on the mtn bike.....with about 98% on the SS.

Through today:

Year-to-Date
Distance 6,964.2 mi
Time 760h 29m
Elev Gain 937,264 ft
Rides 265

I'm jealous of you guys! I'm only able to get in about 1 ride a week, 2 if I'm lucky!

YTD: 517 miles
Time: 60h 59m
Elev: 50,922 ft

I'm a small fish compared to you guys! Haha

Similar to Chevrolegs I am only able to ride on weekends and vacations however I was able to rack up some good miles this year.

2845 miles
286,230 feet

FUN

I agree.....but out of my mileage for this year.....I can honestly say there were probably only a handful of those miles that were not fun.

I have the same device that Mikie has to keep track of my time/miles on the bike, the FUN METER!

On the other hand maybe I should get a "Garmin" device to really keep track of my rides. What would you guys recommend?

Sorry for the jack.

Hah! I have the Garmin Edge 705. I have owned 2 of them. Seems they always pop up on Craigs list (bought both of mine there) for around $180 to $200 bucks...

I really only ride dirt unless there's pavement connecting trails. Usually log about 1500-2000 miles a year.

I should ride to work but the road bridge over the freeway is way too dangerous. There's no shoulder or bike lane, only a 3 foot wall with chain link fence on top. I'm afraid if I did it every day on a bike I would eventually get clipped by a car and smashed into the wall. My commute is a whole 6 miles one way. I sure wish the city would put in a pedestrian/bike bridge or something to get over hwy 15. If they did, I would have no excuse for driving my car.

According to Strava:

Year-to-Date
Distance 3,938.5 mi
Time 295h 52m
Elev Gain 211,732 ft
Rides 155

Unfortunately most of the miles are on the road (that explain the relatively low vert.).

I drive way too much at this point, but one day......maybe...... I'll spend more hrs on a bike then work..... one day.

YTD:
Distance: +/- 2,300 mi.

Much more if you count the road and garage miles...elevation is unknown since it doesn't break it down by type of ride.

Great topic! I can't "equal" my vehicle miles...

And my dirt miles are about 1,000 less than the previous year... I hit "the wall", and switched up the routine with an elliptical machine, as well as a road bike. Even though I rode fewer miles on the dirt, they were better miles. I can remember when my 5 mile loop in O'Neill was "brutal"...

Year-to-Date
Distance 2,792.0 mi
Time 252h 3m
Elev Gain 303,875 ft
Rides 146

I have the Garmin 510, and it's been a great little computer... I didn't think I needed all the bells and whistles that the higher end models have. I'm able to find routes to download for just about anything I want to ride, and I can make courses easy enough for the road rides. I use it with a heart rate monitor so I can keep track of calories a little more accurately... On the road bike, it works great with the speed and cadence sensors. It sure beats counting pedal strokes like I used to in the stone ages.

The only time I've run out of battery life is during the Big Ring Century this past summer. It died just before mile 80. I was wearing the heart rate monitor, which sucks battery faster. During the Julian Death March, I went without the monitor, and the Garmin lasted 9 hours easily.

I started riding for the first time in 20 years back in Jan. I took to it like a fish in water. Being so new I'm really proud of my accomplishments this year:

Year-to-Date
Distance 1,194.4 mi
Time 133h 10m
Elev Gain 129,160 ft
Rides 96

That includes a half century, two MTB races, a visit to Snow Summit, and my goal for the year; biking up to Santiago Peak! I'm going to go for a Gran Fondo on the MTB during the break to add one final accomplishment for the year. We'll see if I can manage that.

Next year I got lucky/am stupid and have VQ as my major goal.

Sounds like somebody got bit by the biking bug! I know the feeling...

Not Nearly what I had hoped to achieve...

Year-to-Date
Distance 1,248.1 mi
Time 162h 11m
Elev Gain 166,152 ft
Rides 70

Vehicle vs biking not even close for me. Per year
Vehicle 25,000 mi
Road bike < 100 mi
Mtb , although I don't keep track anymore I think I'm still consistent
2,000 mi
150,000 ft gain
250,000 ft loss

Thanks.....I am very goal oriented. Actually started the year with a goal of 5000 miles, but blew threw that in early September. Might still finish with 7500....if the weather holds out.

I got in an embarrassingly low 53 days on my bike this past calendar year (I may yet add 2 or 3). Only 4 days of that on my DH bike. Shameful. Three months rehab from a dislocated shoulder, moving out of my house to remodel it, changing jobs - it's been a busy year. So roughly 50 days at an average of 13 miles and 2000' of climbing per ride equals 650 miles and 100,000 vertical. I think Mo does that in a week. mtnbikej does that on his singlespeed over the weekend.

That said, it was still a very good year!

You're cutting yourself short, that would be 100,000 feet vertical. Not bad.

Ooops - math is hard. Thanks for the correction. I will correct it above.

now that's funny.....

Not sure how much I did, but it's probably similar to Hrz, as we ride about the same amount.
I strava occasionally, but not often enough for it to be accurate.

Ride average 2x per week, and 3-4 times on long holidays. Usually 1800-2700 ft vert and 12-18 miles.
More than 1 mile, and less than some folks.

Year-to-Date
Distance 2,039.3 mi
Time 238h 55m
Elev Gain 216,378 ft
Rides 127

Probably 10% of that is off dirt, but 100% of that is on my mountain bike.
During that same period my car has gone almost 9000 miles. If I rode to work, those distances would be reversed but my actual “Dirt” mileage would be pretty much the same.
