Bonsai Show

This weekend is the Golden State Bonsai Federation show and exhibition at the Riverside Convention Center. Biggest bonsai show in the country aside from the National show back east. If you are interested, it is worth checking out. Free admission to the exhibition halls and the vendor area - lots of workshops and presentations as well (but those aren't free).

Check out this display of shohin (small) trees. The tree with the three fruit is a princess persimmon tree - in the fall the leaves will drop and only the fruit will remain on the tree. The other fruiting tree in this display (in the lower left) is a pyracanthas aka firethorn.

You can keep giant sequoias down here, but not coast redwood. Believe it or not, there is a stand of giant sequoias that was planted in the forest up by Idyllwild.
