It's officially official.

According to the Irvine Ranch Conservancy, Fox Run is closed for maintenance. Does anyone know what is being maintained or who is doing it? Since 2011 when these trails got on my radar I have seen all "maintenance activities" result in sanitation to some degree. This is poopie for my Strava Ego since I'm clinging to a cup by one second on Fox Run.

I have no idea, but it's been closed and fenced off during the last two open access days I went to. Maybe they are putting in giant rollers that newbs don't know how to ride. That way they can destroy the trail by skidding off the side or immediately slamming on their brakes on the other side of the roller.

Good intel. Perhaps there are endangered nesting birds or the Mastiff Bat along the trail, and Conservancy Staff are waiting for the young to fledge.

According to all the current MTB videos on Youtube you aren't a mountain biker unless your skidding into/out of every other turn.

I’m one second off a KOM on a 1:03 DH segment comprised of two decomposing granite switchbacks and an off-camber sharp turn at the end. The only way to come close to the one-minute mark is to approach each switchback on the edge of traction, and two wheel skids are required to make the turns with pace. Ever since my ACL reconstruction, I stopped sticking a leg out on turns, but this segment has been the exception, and I’ve been able to eeek out an extra 4 seconds this summer with that technique. 4 seconds baby! Anti-lock brakes for bicycles…is that in R&D anywhere?

Fastest rider I ever saw passed me on Space at the top. No helmet, no shirt, tennis shoes no socks, no shocks front or rear. He would skid the rear into every corner and pop out screaming. In no time at all I could not see him. I thought I was fast, not so much

Ahhh, missed your message. I started today at 7:00, I was already out there. You did not miss much, it was wet and muddy.
I pedaled out at 9ish. My bike is a mess. Every rider I passed (or rather passed me) I hollered “Obsidian,” and every dude said nope.

A selfie and thinking of @mountaingirl sara. Hey Sara!
The sandstone is smeary when wet! By 11, things began to dry out, and Ridge Route was as sticky-icky as I ever saw it.

I was still out there until about 9:45. You don't show up on my flybys, but I would have remembered if I saw you. o_O

My bike was such a mess I took a hose to it. I had about 5 pounds of mud on it during the last climb out. Brutal. :cautious:
