Mikie
Admin/iMTB Hooligan
. . . . It's been 2 weeks since I rode my bike. And since it is Sunday and the rain is pouring down in Lebec it will be another week...
Mikie gets crabby when mikie gets no bikey, he no likey...
I'm on my 4th 805 on an empty stomach so this could get entertaining
None the less, I have been off the bike for two weeks cuz, once again in training for Kokopelli I have overdone it, and have tendonitis in my right Achilles heel.
So...
I said to myself, "Self? May as well pull the Fork and send it in to Fox to get it rebuilt."
So I call Fox (as I'm on hold it states I have one minute to be the next customer, and that goes on for the next 20 minutes) Tom from Fox, a descent sounding dude directs me to their new online RA Number generating site and I pull an RA to send in my fork. I ask him about any suggestions for a box to ship it and he says, "Oh, stop by any Bike Shop, they will have plenty of Fork Boxes."
Local Bike Shop Myth Buster Number 1: They don't have plenty of Fork Boxes. I went to 4 shops. Even the biggest shop in Bakersfield, Action Sports...
So...
At the last shop I stopped at ( I won't mention their name) -->Finish Line Bike <-- located at 8850 Stockdale Hwy, Bakersfield, CA 93311 (661) 833-6268
okay . . . I lied...
I walk in and ask for a Fork Box to ship my Fox Fork back to Fox for service...
The Mechanics at said shop say, "Why do you need a Fork Box to send your fork back to Fox?"
I say, "Because it needs service, and I'm looking for a box to send it in."
THEY SAY, "Why would you send it to FOX, when we are the premier Southern California Fox Service Center".
I'm thinking, Wow, I didn't know that...
They continue, "We stock most all the parts and why would you ship it to them and have them do what we can? It saves you shipping, we are cheaper, and we guarantee our work."
I explain my Fox Fork woes, and they say, "Bring it in. We are open tomorrow (Sunday) and we will have it back to you in 2 to 3 days."
I say, "That's what Fox says their turn around time is."
They all laugh and say, "Yeah, they have been saying that for years. Never could figure out how they have got away with THAT ONE for so long!"
I should have known something was amiss when they were asking about my fork and I told them that I changed out the splash oil and fork wiper seals and it has never been the same. They were telling me that I had put too much oil in and that it was topping out harsh and not using the full travel.
So I then said, "Okay, YOU show me how to read their F'ed up oil chart and tell me how much oil is supposed to be in my forks!"
After much online search on the Fox site. The much wiser more sage elderly bike tech could not figure it out as well. (sarcasm is beginning to flow here ... :? )
In a bold moment, I stated that I am bringing you guy my fork so you can prove your worthiness. I said, there is a bullshit penalty if you fail as I own imtbtrails!
They all gasped and shifted backwards and they all said, "Not imtbtrails!"
(No, they really didn't say that . . . but I did hand them biz cards and said there is a penalty for bullshitting me on this one)
Well THAT didn't seem to matter, cuz I went home that night and pulled my fork and took it to them the next day, on that Holy Sunday, only to find them "back pedaling" big time when I asked them to put their performance where their big fat lying mouths were.
Their "resident expert" stated upon asking me a series of questions was, "Well you need to send it to Fox as I do not work on their FIT system..."
WTF? (5 1/2 beers later now...)
"Thanks for completely wasting my time", I said. Turns out I had done everything right (per their expert)...and now it was time for Fox to take over. :x
Since they were a Shimano Shoe Dealer, I asked if they had my Shimano SH-M200 shoes in stock and they said no. "So you really don't have anything I need, do you?"
So I took Cathy to Rubios and got my traditional two Fish Taco Plate and went home to box up my Fork without a F'n Fork Box...
Feel sorry for me. I'm buzzed and depressed!
Mikie Out!
(Like a light)
Bike on!
PS: 805 Beer Number 6!
