Now this is interesting to me...It seems like OC MTB rides in the Cleveland National Forest/Santa Ana Mountains are forsaken, be it the gravel grinds or the crazy sh!t (here's to you @mike with your intrepid missions). However, mention a ride anywhere within the City (Quail Hill), County (Aliso/Wood Canyon, LCWP), or State (Crystal Cove) Parks, and it's gangbusters all around!

Think it has more to do with timing. Cold evening rides in the SA's require a certain dedication....or serious lack of smarts. Weekend rides always get more rider traffic.

Then you have to look at the one posting the rides. People have a perceived notion of what my ride is going to be like....right or wrong.

I won't take it personally... I only threw it out there, because there might be the occasional crazy soul who wants to tag along on a fire road grinder in the cold. And if I post it, it makes me get out there, and not bail on my own ride. :whistling: Like mtnbikej says, this one isn't for everyone. By next week, I should be ready to get back to the Motorway night runs... Aside from the cold, that is probably a more appealing run.

Now excuse me while I look for my balaclava and sheepskin mittens. o_O

I think there are more IMTBers prowling the CNF and the Santa Ana mts. than playing in Aliso or LCWP. Look at how many Black Star, Harding, Maple Springs, Skyline, Holy Jim, Main Divide, Trabuco, Silverado Motorway, Hagador, Sierra, Santiago, Modjeska, STT etc posts there are. Comparatively, 87% of the Aliso posts are from one guy.

I am ready to start night riding Aliso or Laguna. I am off work Thursday nights.

Dang...I keep forgetting. Sorry to derail the thread. How did the ride to the golf ball go?

As Andy says above, the national forest is the only legal night riding around here...

It went well... And chilly. Not so bad on the way up, but it was cold coming back down. Nothing technical, but it's a good nighttime fire road workout. I'm trying to get my legs and lungs back after 3 weeks off the bike.

I'll probably post a night ride for Maple Springs- Motorway some time next week.
