biking w/ your dog?

Dog Lucy and I have been riding a bit on the floop, running too. She is a corgi so I thought, no way can she keep up but this stumpy legged shorty kept on going, running and running, with her long tongue and one ear flopping. Yesterday, she ran for 3 miles, chased one squirrel, tried to hump one dog (Lucy is female but confused), and threw up.
After she looked up and said, "let's go!"
For about 100 yards she can sprint, 15 plus miles an hour.
Or she can run easy for a good 3 to 4 miles.
When she gets home, she throws herself on her bed, exhausted, yet ready to go out at a moment's notice.
Who knew that she could become a short distance trail dog when the wifey and daughters picked her out?
She's been off leash when floop not too crowded but yesterday morning, she met two coyotes, so no mas for the off leash stuff... she thought they were friends... luckily she still knows come here command but a little too close..
One of the joys in life is to sprint on bike as fast as you can with a little corgi at your pedal...

Throw up time!!!

Good on you for spending quality time with your pet.

We used to run one of our dogs with a little moto. We ran the dog pretty hard as I recall. Our vet said it was too much, and that it could contribute to hip and other problems. I think dogs don’t know any better and are willing to overdo it. Vomiting doesn’t necessarily sound okay. I would check in with my vet for particulars on the breed etc.

Sorry, going to be the ******* here:

I hate trail dogs.

I don't care how many times people insist that their dogs are well behaved, it seems they always get in my way. I guess people hope being "cute" buys them leeway. Also, one of my former pups (died of old age) was dog aggressive. I could never take her out in public because everyone with their loose dogs saying "Oh, my Rover loves dogs!" Then rush up to mine on a leash where she would try to rip rovers face off. I could never take her anyway because of "trail dogs". Ironically, my pitbull was totally dog friendly, but everyone would run in terror with their Rover when they saw her

Dash at the top of Holy Jim, 2016. Dash was packing our water for the 10 mile out and back.

I've still got both dogs, but Rocket's in retirement because he's almost 16. Dash still runs six miles of trails with me every week. She still wears the pack, but I don't force her to carry water when it's hot.

I've tried a few times over the years with my various dogs. And, I've usually had two so that compounds it 4x.
It's just too hard with all the people around.
The afraid of dog people, the yelling at you cuz a dog is off leash ....
One time when when I had two of my labs out in nowhere near Jamul I did try to see how fast they could go. Dropped the 10 year old at 14 mph and the six year old made me work to drop her at 18.

I always train mine on voice command. But still carry a leash when we see someone. They are also trained to stop and wait when the trail turns and vision is lost. I do not want to round a crest and see some hiker stiff legging with my dog next to them. I trained them with power projection. I say something and I mean it, I throw a rock at them, aiming at them. I am a terrible aim but they understand that if they give me enough chances one will hit. Once trained you do not need to load up on rocks.
Happy trails with mtn Dawgs

The two were trained to ride with leashes, one on each side of me. But I only do that on the street to the trail head

Did she clean the entry descent?

Rocket is a better trail runner because I was able to train him to lead on the climbs and follow on the descents. Dash is a trail hog. She leads on the climbs, and then crowds me on the descents. Any time I would have to slow down, like for a switch-back, she would move up until she was next to my rear wheel. I became paranoid that her pack was somehow going to get tangled up in my drivetrain. The main reason I got the pack was that she kept freaking people out because they thought she was a coyote - particularly when she was chasing me down the trail.
