Big Mountain Lion

This may belong in trailhead. Anyway I was talking with another friend of mine here in Acton who has his home on the edge of the Angeles Forest here in Acton, his neighbors are losing there animals to a hungry lion, my friend told me he had very large paw prints on his property, the stride between prints was a whopping 4' span! This is in close proximity to the Acton Trail, where people start from Aliso Canyon. Just thought I would let people know what is lurking. I was told that a good deterrent could be is to purchase a big pair of eyeball decals and put them on the back of the helmet, I'll probably do that.

There is some evidence that having eyes on the back of your helmet could be beneficial. Most research states to not turn your back on a Mountain Lion. To continue to stare at them as you back away. Never turn your back on a Mountain Lion.

But it also states that the most likely time you will see a Mountain Lion is at dawn or dusk, and that they will evade you at all cost.
Other things to consider is to wear bright colors. Even though Cats do not see color the higher contrast distinguishes you from deer, the number one food source for Mountain Lions. They can reach a speed of up to 45 miles per hour so not even biking away is likely if they choose to attack, and running away will place them in attack mode so move slow and methodical.

Use clothing to make yourself look as big as possible for example, hold your bike up over your head. Throwing rocks is also realistic because if you do indeed hit them, they begin to understand that you may be a predator and not prey. As well, loud noises from yelling or like a whistle distract and discourage them.

The best deterrent is to not ride alone...

He also stated that he saw a blanket of hunters coming down from the dirt road behind his house, and speculated they took whatever deer there was. The Forest is trying to come back.

The cat the killed Mr. Reynolds in Whitting had been killing livestock in Silverado Canyon months before. The cat was reported and a government hunter was on the lookout before the sad event happened. Once Lions get used to being around people the potential for human attacks increases. Send evidence of livestock kills and encroachment to Fish and Game.
