Best trail

To counter @mtbMike thread about over rated trails. What is the absolute best trail (or system) in Socal...

I haven't ridden much north of Orange County (like Fullerton Loop or End Thread mentioned above ;)) as many of you but for me, I think the "best built" trails are in Murrieta but I've never had more fun than I do on Mt Wilson, specifically Mt Lowe to Middle Merrill to Sunset Ridge.

The subject is so subjective. Out n back-loop? Do you have to climb to earn the drop? Contour trails? What type of riding do you like? What width of trail do you ride? Exposure? Pavement and dirt? Fireroad? Bed rock and screed? Gravel? Roots? Air or no air? Solo or wall to wall eyeballs? Location? I have my parameters, and the trails I ride are based upon the above. Every so often I go back to trails that did not meet all my criteria expecting some great leap in the fun as what was burned in my memory. I find it just reinforces the reasons why I rarely ride those trails
Happy rocky chutes trails

Agreed. I'd expect a different answer from almost everyone. I'd have a hard time naming just one trail let alone a top 5. And a lot of my favorites I won't name publicly because I don't want word getting out... :sneaky:

Also depends if you're talking about a ride made up of a number of different trails, or just one of those trails that makes up the ride. Palm Canyon would be one of my top rides, but individually most of the trails that make it up wouldn't be on my top trails list. Then if you consider it as a whole trail system...

Best individual trails? Hmmm... Palm Canyon proper (74 to wash, even without Indian potrero), Tunnel Tr, Pinos, gotta say San Juan since its a great climb and fun descent (although overrated), same with SART - 50 miles is hard to argue with. The rest I'm not gonna name :)

Best ride or trail system? I'm sure we already have a thread for that somewhere.

The trail that gives or gave you nightmares. The one that tested your psyche, skill and stamina – jacked you right out of the comfort zone. Or will. The one that confirmed you’re not a weak ass pussy. Or will. That one that makes you look at every trail a little differently now. Or will. The one that’ll make riding more fun.

Well done... I love those runs where I am shaking a little at the bottom.

How about the one that made you giggle like a schoolgirl, or the one that made you rush back around to do it again? I know that doesn't have the element of existential angst or ordeal that you describe, but pure joy counts too!

I still remember an old friend rip, n i were looking down on top of chutes when some young kid w full face stopped n chatted.. nice kid..
He then bombed down chutes! I was so impressed..
We pulled up our big boy pants n went down.. high fiving each other at the bottom...
I miss that feeling

Yeah the one's that test your technical prowess (or lack of) and confidence (or lack of), and the ones you haven't ridden that have a reputation, and you are about to ride it. But I can have just as much fun on a trail I've done many times that just flows at a good rate of speed, like flying in a small aircraft. The G-forces, trying to not hit the brakes and just flow. I like lower San Juan just as much as Yeager or Chiquito, but in a totally different way.
