What is everyone's opinion of the Bell Super 2R Convertible Helmet? Yeah . . . nay? Anyone own one?

Edit: They do come with MIPS technology now... average price I found to be $220.00 bucks

My only thought would be if you took a spill hard enough, would or could the full face part come off or even bend or break and do some serious facial damage? It is a great concept but I usually like to wait a while, so companies can work out the bugs in new products. I wonder if they make it in a MIPS protection.

I don't know much about the Super 2R but it looks like a good concept. I don't think it's meant to replace a dedicated full face, but it's better than an XC lid.

I heard there is a MIPS version coming out soon.

l have a super helmet now and like It the helmet fits well and has good ventilation. For me the new 2r is a great option l hate shuttling to the top so I ride and just use my standard helmet. The front chin bar gives that little bit more confidence sometimes needed. I feel if I break the chin bar off it was going to be my face anyway so at least I slowed down the impact. I have broken two moto full face helmets at the chin bar and picked the fiber glass out of my face its no fun but a chin bar that does not brake away will most likely end in a broken neck.

Vecnum also has a convertible helmet.

I don't think these are intended to replace dedicated full face helmets either. I think it's for those trail rides where you wish you had a full face after a long climb.

I like the idea, but I highly doubt I'd shell out the dough for one.

Love the concept, know nothing of the particular models out.

Power to Bell for stepping up. If there's any helmet mfr I'd trust with a new tech release, it's them.

The POC Trabec Race is nearly 2 bills, so the price point of this new lid doesn't seem out of line at all to me. Think of the price of dental work...

I like the idea of the 2R. I am on my 2nd Super. Love it fts great comfortable on those 4+hr rides, ventilation is good. Most importantly my first one did its job and saved my skull in aprox 20 mph crash landing on the back of my head. Yes it broke but I was fine. I got my current super the next day after the crash via Bell's crash replacement policy! ;)

meh. why keep the chin guard in your back pack when you can just keep it where it's belongs.

Breathing? Drinking? Ventilation? You know that, Sir Greg! Riding uphill in a FF is a horrible experience.

My opinion is first of all it's beautiful looking helmet, and after taking a closer look at it meaning in my hands,it will most likely be a must have item for me! Solves the problem.

I never had a problem breathing in a FF, there's plenty of room to get air. Drinking not really an issue with a camelbak, water bottle yes but not a deal maker. As far as ventilation most FF don't nearly have the ports this helmet does so I don't see climbing with it that horrible. My opinion.

@ Herrzalot - It is a nice helmet but i just can't see myself attaching and disconnecting a chin piece throughout my ride. Great concept though and I like seeing companies like Bell thinking outside the box.

@ zerogravity - Dang it has been a while since you've been on the scene. I bought a real FF two years ago. Kali!

Their thinking was the Enduro race scene where you have to wear a helmet on your transfer stages, riding up the hill. Some venues and stages require a full face for the downs, and for others, it's just a good idea. So it's a whole lot easier than their current habit of strapping the FF on the back for climbing while wearing an xc lid, then changing at the top and strapping the xc lid to the pack for the trip down. I imagine there will be more and more Enduro-style races where this type of helmet would be perfect.

This would be good for Snow Summit for me, since I sometimes ride up from the cabin and ride Skyline before dropping into the park.

That's enough kidz . . .

The reason I like this helmet is for two reasons.
1) Sometimes we go on these long Epics that have some serious sup-ah-chunk (<--Yes, that is a legitimate imtbtrails word) and I would like to have a full face for those moments of craziness. This means it's not intended for riding at a Park where I would need a "full on" Full Face.

2) I would like to mount my GoPro on the front attachment as I would think it would give the best of all worlds in recording great front view video. Just enough handlebar/front wheel/and gloved hands in view, while having that steady (no side of the helmet in the video) action...
