I get the awkward feeling that I'm the only mtn biker on this forum who frequents V or CC...

Okay, that pretty much confirms my hunch. You are azookasian (and several other avatars) from MTBR.

Welcome to imtbtrails. Now behave yourself or Mikie will put you in a hammerlock and make you suffer. Promise us you won't try to whip up mountain lion hysteria, mkay?

Cheers, and thanks for that gray chicklet you left me.

I barely follow MTBR, and I know what thread you're talking about!

Faustie, that lion-fear thread was just the warm-up thread with a warm-up avatar. Dude spent a lot of energy trolling multiple forums over there with avatars asookasian, clowntown, vassago and who knows what else. All within several months at most. Those are just the obvious ones I know about.

Now look here. What person living outside a cave asks if dirt jumping can be done on a hardtail? Or why an outdated brand of bike isn't a common topic of discussion? Now a Trailhead post that doesn't mention a ride. More trolling is all this is.

I'd suggest we allow a person a fresh start, but the troll's start here has been the same stale MO as on the other site.

I've only ridden cherry canyon once but I enjoyed the trails, just thought they were too short. I'll be riding them again though on October 24th from 9:00-3:00 for the Kona demo that's being hosted by Montrose bike shop. Leaving my wallet home though.

Well, I think the "Why Beer?" thread did the maximum damage but that's just my opinion.
Anyways, I'm a beginner biker so that's why I ask about dirt jumping with HT (as ludicrous as it may sound). And Diamondback does make some expensive bikes, that's why I asked that one. As far as TH post not mentioning ride, I don't know what that means and I don't know if there are any LA area riders on this forum anyways.

I feel like I'm innocent until proven guilty in this forum. Please don't go into troll patrol mode on me...

There is an exposed trail in Cherry Canyon that I didn't feel comfortable with, it was like 3 ft wide with drops on one side. But overall it's a good workout with decent variety. The Glendale Police Shooting Range is up there, you can access it from a gated trail near the top of Fern (left side).

Around here we consider 3ft wide trails to be double-track passing zones. No doubt Cherry was a good workout and I do remember some fun exposure. Meet me there on the 24th and show me around as I plan on trying to ride at least a couple different Kona's that day(and did I mention leaving the wallet home)...

I think the Ministry front man (Al Jourgensen), is talking about the OWL trail. That's the chunkiest trail in cherry canyon. Everything else there is used by the local High School MTB teams to train on. Nice flowy XC style trail network with fire roads and some nice single track sections.

Hmmm. Montrose is the LBS I go to. They told me they do Sunday afternoon group rides in Cherry Canyon but I never rode with them as I hurt my hand weight lifting and then hurt my shoulder riding. Cherry Canyon is quite complex compared to other Verdugo trails I've ridden. But we did a 9 mile group ride there recently. How do those demo days work? You need to reserve a bike in advance or just show up at the shop the day of?

Yes, I think that's what it's called. I don't like those types of narrow exposed trails b/c ppl hike and bring dogs off leashes and you never know what you'll run into (literally).

I've only been to one other Demo but basically you just show up with your own pedals, sign on the dotted line, and give them your credit card in case you don't bring the bike back. Oh and show up early before all the bikes are gone.

That's interesting, do they actually pre-run your credit card to see what available limit/balance you have or even if the card is not canceled lol? Maybe they should take your driver's license as well just in case.

Ok, so for this specific demo, do you basically show up at the Montrose shop and pick up the bike there and pedal to Cherry Canyon? Or will they literally have the bikes at the Glendale Sports Complex prepped?

Not sure on the specifics. Saw the info on their facebook page but probably best to call them and find out.

Ok well perhaps I can show up for a bit but my life is generally complicated and overbooked (I'm married with 3 small kids, soccer, etc). So that's why I end up riding solo early mornings during the week. Are you planning on riding the entire day or partial or what? If I go I can only go in the morning. I've never rode a bike for longer than 2h 15m IIRC. Cherry has some very steep sections. There is also a trail I rode that basically goes for 1-2 miles all around the Sports Complex. Another narrow one with random objects coming your way directly face on (around the corner Halloween surprise style). I feel like that trail system at ~120 acres can be too busy sometimes (but I've only rode there thrice so far).

Why can't you just take the bike wherever you want in the local area and bring it back at a certain agreed upon time? You get way higher top speeds on the Verdugo trails (esp. Whiting Woods where I crashed the last time) than CC.

They usually take your credit card, thumbprint, social security #, bank info, passport, your dog, and your Drivers License. And some even take your first born child! That's if you look super shady.....
Why can't they just take my wife? whoops sorry, wrong meeting...

Luckily, the proposal zone is on the North side of 210 freeway, bordering Sunland/Tujunga. Quite frankly, it's a zone that I have always assumed would be developed one day since there is already a handful of remote homes dotting the hills there.

The area of the Verdugos where we ride (South of the 210 freeway) is part of the Santa Monica Mountains State Park so I think it's safe from major development.
