Re: Amgen Tour of California

I don't think I would recognize you guys with regular clothes on..... :o

A fantastic sports story goes unnoticed by the media, again.
Sagan is a sprinter, winner of long flat stages, with a good team and set-up for the finish. He was handed the lead by a last minute course change that suited his style to a "T".
Sagan comes out and says he will defend his lead on the mountainous Baldy stage and does, losing only 2 seconds to a bunch of Euro climbing experts.
Dude comes out and fights Cavendish, coming in second twice, and still pulls enough out of the hat to win the GC....by 2 seconds.... :D

Re: Amgen Tour of California

Looks much warmer than it was on Baldy yesterday. Rather than hijack, I'll separate post. Awesome race.

yep, good story/race. I think your numbers are a lil skewed, but good story none the less.

>>On Friday, after joking that he’d won on the last-minute 10km time trial course at Magic Mountain because the race organization had “designed a course just for me,” Sagan said that the only way he could stay in yellow on Saturday was if the race organizers would, again, “design a course just for me.”

Where is Sagan from? East LA?

How is he different than the other "Euro climbing experts"?

Road racing has a sordid set of characters: climbers, sprinters, domestiques, GC contenders, classic riders, grand tourismos, uppers, downers, screamers, laughers. You might even see a fan with a syringe or the Devil on a penny farthing.

The sprinters tend to be bigger bodied, and rely on the team to keep them in contention until the stage(race) can be contested in a sprint finish.

Euro-climbing specialists look like they have the ass end of a horse grafted to the upper body of a 12 year old, pre-pubescent boy. Can climb hills like goats but rarely wins in a sprint.

Not gonna lie, that's some impressive mountain biking by guys in leotards riding with half a fork and no rear suspension!

Re: Amgen Tour of California

I went to the finish in Pasadena and watched them zoom by half a dozen times faster than I can ride downhill. It's incredible how fast they are and like most things more impressive in person.
