I Rode My Bike Today...

@Voodoo Tom and I rode our bikes!
We did a cruizer on good ole reliable Golden Eagle. The trail is in excellent condition EXCEPT for the upper middle section which needs some serious TLC. So we took the extended version on the way back around that section and got some extra credit.
Went for it on the final descent. It's so confusing when people add segments on top of segments. I'm 4th, I'm 7th, I'm 10th, I'm 34th... wtf!
Anyway, we escaped the heat but not the gnats. I don't need lunch... yuk!

Huge shout out to whoever is doing the trail work. All of the trees from end to end have been cut out of the trail... THE ENTIRE LOWER SECTION is weed whipped, AND, the lower midsection is well under way. I can't thank you enough. It's inspiring to get up there and ride the efforts of others.
Thanks again mystery trail maintainer!

And there were a couple friendly horseback hotties on the climb up that I kept thinking we would run in to on the descent so it distracted me (well that and I suck and I fell off my bike just a little)...

I rode today! I had the pleasure of riding dawn patrol with mtnbikej and Mrs. mtnbikej. Entry #30 in the Motorway logbook for me since it reopened. A few more, and I'll take a cue from "TECRIL" and call these endless M&M runs. :p

People suck. There was more garbage on Maple Springs and in the Four Corners area than I've seen in a long time...

17.5 miles and 3700 feet...

Early Sunrise on the way up Maple Springs...

Headed down Motorway!

Well, my wife has been bitten by the Dawn Patrol Rides. Today, I was able to get her out on a ride in the Santa Ana's. Actually, this was her idea....I just held her to it. We met up with @Faust29 for a 5:30am roll....and rolled and 5:29. Knew the pace was not going to be fast. She had not ridden this loop in probably 4-5 years. Suz just crusied up at her own pace. Steve and I would pull away from time to time, then wait for her....only to have her pedal by without stopping.

We made it about 1/2 way up Maple Springs before the sun finally crested over the mountain. Temps began to warm up.

The turn where the actual Maple Spring is.....

It was buggy....Suz finally rolled up at one point wearing her bug net.

The trash at 4 Corners was horrible. Sucks that people are that ignorant.

The ride across Main Divide was warm to hot. Suz hadn't been out there in years....but jumped out and just attacked the descents. The big climb past Bedford was the first time I noticed the smell of fire in the air.....and felt it. The ride down Motorway was slower than normal. Suz was out front, and we just followed. She thought it was in horrible shape.....it is, but it isn't. Lots of hikers out.

Glad she got out and did the loop, and enjoyed it.

Finally got out and rode the bike today! something like the second ride in 2 weeks. Felt good, lots of fun. 13 and 1700...short and sweet.
Realized my new Cromag grips make my hands numb. Most likely due to the slightly wider center and my small hands. Ordered new Lizard Skin Peaty grips exactly like my last pair, that should solve that issue! Loved those Lizard skins, why mess with what works....
So if anyone is interested in Cromag grips with about 5 rides on them, I'll have a pair gathering dust in the garage in the next few days.....

TFPU!

I still have a pair of grips with @sir crashalot's name on them, nudge nudge. :)

I'll take 'em if they do not have a lock ring on the outer edge.

Rode Marshal Fri morning. Beat the heat. This ride was a suspension tune up ride with the new shockwiz. This thing is awesome! T-2 and I bought it last week. He has tuned his and his wife's bike. I tuned my RS -1 and my fox 36. Working on the float on the tallboy next. I am pretty savvy with suspension but this thing goes to the next level! Check it out! We will rent it out 25.00 for 2 days if you need it.

TTB - I definitely want to try to take a Wiz!

Interesting that you have 64.2 psi in your 36 and the Wiz is telling you to remove air. I'll bet Fox' manual has you at about 85 psi or higher for your weight. Long ago in a land far away I had a 36 and had to run it at about 60 psi at my dainty weight of 210 lbs.

I got out this morning for something different.

Joined @H2oChick and Greg for a Whiting/Luge loop. 7:45 roll from Wahoos...it was already warm. The entry into Whiting was crowded...Borrego Trail not so much. Mustard on the other hand was packed....tons of riders and hikers. Got up to 4 Corners and there were hordes of hikers up there as well. We didn't stop, and continued out roll over to STT. There were others out there, but it didn't feel crowded. Greg made the call to head up STT beyond the Luge. We made it up to the last look out before heading back. It was getting humid about this time. The Luge felt like it beat me up pretty good today....just didn't feel in rhythm with it.

We climbed back up to 4 Corners, before Cactus and Sage Trail. By the time we got back to the cars it was quite sticky out there.

Fun to get out and do something different. Felt weird starting so late.

@Cougar and I rode exactly what I posted in "Gonna ride somewhere..." thread. 7:05 roll time. 5-Oaks, Cholla, Stair Steps, Willow, T and A, Up Stairs, Car Wreck. 3100' 17.5 miles.

Humid, but cool with a nice breeze. Craig hadn't been riding for a while, so he was in "re-acquaintance with bike and climbing mode." He's always good company. Never complains - always glad to be out there. Puts up with me, so he should be nominated for sainthood.

I had an altercation with an older "gentleman" as I was finishing my run on stairs. I saw two men hiking down, so I slowed to a crawl and said "You're alright, you're good. Good morning." One of the guys starts scrambling up the hillside shouting, "I said stop. STOP." I was about 15 ft. away and barely moving - and I told them they did not need to move. He started yelling at me "I don't want to be killed by a mt. biker." I told him to chill - I was in complete control, I was stopping and he didn't need to move. I even had a bell that warned of our approach long before he saw us. He was just intent on being filled with rage and drama. Oh well. I had a great run on Stairs anyway.

Nice run on T and A too. Probably my fastest - but who knows and frankly, who cares?!

I did manage to climb all of the alternate route UP Stairs. I had to stop once, but I didn't walk. Yay me! Don't get me wrong - I still had to push up to where the trails split.

Then a nice run on Car Wreck. Unfortunately, I tripodded the section past the car - but I had a scorcher to that point, including a nice huck off @Mikie's drop. Craig's legs were nearing the "toast" phase, but he soldiered on. We ran into @littlewave and a friend as we were exiting the park near the bottom of Cholla.

Great morning out there. I love the chunky stuff and I'm so glad I have some riding buddies who will do it with me. Time to put Art School and Waimea into rotation.

Yesterday I had a few runs down Pinos with a customer, an SVPD K9 officer and an SVPD Narc. I guess you could say we were all Simi Valley's finest. :gag:

First run was a warm up and trail conditions reconnaissance. Second run was a nice unobstructed flow as I only passed a couple people coming up. Third run there was a little more uphill traffic but we were still able to enjoy some good flow. Halfway down the last section I buggered a switchback and fell over. No biggie. At the very end of the trail I overcooked a turn and plowed into the ground. This one hurt. I think all I did was bruise a rib but falling twice in one day is very uncommon for me so it was very humbling. I was able to do a fourth run but it was literally just a cruiser.

To add I broke my derailleur cable on the second run. I was hoping there was enough cable to have my lower gears but ended up adjusting the high limit screw in which gave me the 8th gear. Definitely low enough for any climbing on this particular descent but a little low for the fast sections. Still I really dug the simplicity of a single speed.

Overall it was a great day with 27 miles and a lot of descent.

What??? No customary last minute Trailhead invite for this one o_O? Guess you two needed some alone time:rolleyes:! The bromance continues:inlove:!
Seriously now, a couple questions; is the road fixed for vehicles yet? Do you think the trail fairy is the same guy who did the orange spray paint last year?

I rode my bike today! Took my buddy with Parkinson's and his wife up to Chilao. We just did the FS road from the fire fighter memorial up to the Pacifico road and back. 8.5 miles which was a good accomplishment for them. Yesterday (Saturday) I did a Wrightwood ride. Jackson to East Table Mtn. then over to Logger back to the lake. Had to take Hwy 2 instead of the Mtn. High west dirt road. They were holding a huge archery tournament there and closed the road through the ski area. Also Hwy 2 was closed between Grassy Hollow and Vincent Gap due to a sinkhole in the road. That kept the traffic very light when I had to take Hwy 2!

Carry a spare cable! Light and convenient.

Nice rides and report.

Applause! You're a good man, @Maddog.

A long-time friend has the same condition. I feel fortunate to be able to ride with him. I'm sure he feels fortunate to ride with me/us. You probably already know there is an established connection between riding a bike and improvement of neurological conditions like PD. Bikes are more than fun!

Back to trail exploits with critically under-stocked repair kits!!!!!!!!:cool: Hi Ed!!!!

Thanks Mike! They told me about the benefits of biking for him a couple years ago when he was first diagnosed but it's still very hard to get him out to ride! The condition makes him temperature sensitive so it's always too hot, too cold or too windy for him to ride! And up here in Lancaster, it can be all those things on the same day! I'll keep pestering him though!

BTW, I don't carry an extra cable either Ed! Nor a derailleur hanger and I've never needed either in 26 years of mountain biking! Wouldn't know how to install them anyway !

I rode my bike twice this weekend. Friday evening I did a quick Blackstar cruise up to the bottom of the boobytrap single track. Saturday morning I did a quick run to peters from my house (milf hunting). It was a great weekend on the bike and I feel great this morning. Yay bikes!
