After True Grit on Saturday, we had still planned to ride on Sunday.
The weather was supposed to be clear. It was time to check out some new dirt.
Well Saturday night we were welcomed with thunder/hail/rain storms. Figured we'd still get to ride, but we waited til later in the day.
We drove down to Cottonwood to ride Prospector and Church Rocks.
The sun was shining and it was 68*. The trail was dry. Our route was on the shorter side. Suz hasn't been riding much lately, so no death march.
Prospector is a connector trail.....I'll call it flat rolling. No real climbs or decents. Reminded me of JEM. Mix of dirt and rock slabs.
It was stop and smell the roses kinda ride. The colors were so vivd.
About 3 miles in we reached Church Rocks. This was a shift from dirt trails to sandstone. It was spectacular. A few steep pitches, otherwise it was easy going. Some fun alternate lines to take. Some areas that were "choose your own adventure". We were both diggin' it. Like I said it was a short loop, so before long we had looped back around to Prospector.
Well once we got back to Prospector, those clouds around us closed in....quickly. A few sprinkles turned into a full on hail storm. Temps dropped form 68* to 46*. The dry trail turned into wet red cement. Neither of us came prepared for this. I was in 68* clothes. It would hail/rain on us for a about 20 mins. I was having a blast. Suz hadn't been on an adventure ride like this for a long time. We just cruised back to the truck....so much fun.
By the time we got back to the truck, the clouds had cleared, the sun came back out and the temps climbed back up. Such a great ride. Was fun to try something new. The ride was not difficult. They called it a Blue trail, but seemed easier than that.
