I Rode My Bike Today...

Fun route today on the MTB. Runkle, Albertson, Norway, Hidden Treasure and China Flats then in reverse. I ran into Jennifer as I was heading back towards Hidden Treasure so she joined me for the rest of my ride. She's been feeling good and riding strong lately. I'm very fortunate to have such a great riding partner.

Fun ride today. I am really outta shape though. Too many Conora burgers and almost no riding. But I will get back into the swing of it.

@rossage was the animal on two wheels he always is. Full of fun facts and just a happy soul. We need more folks like him.

@Faust29 rode his SS today and I was impressed. He powered through and it was a joy to watch. That's the first time I've done a ride that included considerable climbing with a SSer (that I can recall).

That was a great ride... I can see I've got a lot to explore and learn up there...

Rather than dodge strollers and Walmart bikes at oaks, I decided to dodge 17 year olds in Lambos in Santiago Canyon. Home to Beeks & back. 32 miles. Half paved road, half dirt road. Absurdly slow. Not my preferred sort of riding generally but my legs needed the miles and the scenery is hard to top riding from the garage.

3 sheriff cars at the Black Star/Silverado intersection, but still a couple dozen geniuses parked at the trailhead. The deputies take turns driving down to write them up every so often.

Seemed appropriate:

That section has troubled riders for years and @Faust29 comes out and does it on hi is first try-it wasn't pretty, but he didn't go down the chute!

No, it wasn't pretty! I wasn't planning on riding it, so I half-tripoded up to it. When I got close, I thought, "what the hell.." Pretty sure I wasn't clipped in when I went for it. Feet flopping around on the pedals. :p

"SART" Saturday w/ @scan and, @NinjaDon met up at Oaks restaurant @ 07:30am. Not sure whom else would show as I arrived I recognized @scan co- workers Francisco and, Donald aka @NinjaDon also riding w/ us that morning was Alex and Jason. As Fran pulls up the boys where ready to roll and off we rode and started w/ the Post office loop which is so fun and flowy! but that's just all of SART!

Once we popped out to MCR, we took a quick break, went over the route that the fellas wanted to ride.

So the plan was to take 7 Oaks road up to Southfork camp. Something I've never done before, which was a good idea I've always rode the singletrack up to Southfork which is a bit more taxing! Well where do I start it was a lil easier but dam that is one long as$ road I will admit not being in great shape 7 Oaks road kicked my butt" cant complain to much the weather all day was on the cool side that alone kept me going through the day.

On the way up to Southfork I got somewhat lucky on the gravel part of the road. I rode right by the tail of a gopher snake didn't see it until i rode right behind it, luckily it wasn't a rattler. Snake did not flinch a bit, it might of even just had breakfast i was telling Fran it looked a lil puffy so that might be the reason why it wasn't moving at all.

Although 7 Oaks road felt long, it was very new to me and I couldn't believe how green and so beautiful the surrounding area is looking right now. Not to mention the river that runs parallel w/ the road has a lot of water flowing through it right now.

Finally arriving at Southfork I was the last one to arrive along w/ Fran, whom rode by my side the last 2 miles so I dont take a wrong turn somewhere and also was falling behind a bit. The break at Southfork was nice under the shade it felt so cool hydrated ate some snacks and off we went on the singletrack!

The singletrack well you guys should know it was fun!! Our group of riders where kicking some butt out there. Me I was still a lil behind I was feeling it even on the small climbs. The first section from Southfork to Glass rd. so worth it" only one mechanical Alex would get a nail in his tire, yes a nail? but the rest of the way from Glass rd. back to MCR was great as well. Now MCR never have an issue with but SARTurday I did, it took me a while up those last 3 miles, took about 6 breaks in total my legs where at the point of cramping up. The legs never did cramp up but finally getting out to hwy 38 was such a relief.

Getting back to the cars, I was greeted w/ a cold brew from Wiens brewery thanks to @NinjaDon not sure how he new that is one of my favorite breweries but that post refreshment hit the spot and was so unexpected thanks Donald:thumbsup:. Also thanks to Fran for the invite the day turned out fantastic:) 29mi/3400ft.

Love it... such a great place to ride!

I took a me day from work and did a partial SART lap friday and did some whiting/luge/stt riding on sunday morning.

SART was truly mind blowing. It's in the best shape I've ever seen it in. I started at glass and climbed up to the do the post office loop. I was considering doing the full lollipop but my back was feeling pretty tired so I called it just doing the glass to 38 lollipop and didn't do the upper section. I brought my megatower as I was trying out a coil rear shock for the first time and wanted to try out the coil spring rate on a trail that wouldn't be a disaster if I was under/over sprung. The mega on sart is like bringing a m1 abrams to a knife fight, but I had a great time regardless. Definitely enjoyed having the 2.5 DHF in front on the loose exposed sections behind the PO. I stopped at the convenience store at the top to get a snickers and a coconut water and convenience store worker was remarkably nice... these days it seems like interactions with canyon/mountain folks can go 50/50 as a visitor.

I rode for about 3.5 hours and only saw 1 dirt biker on middle control and 1 other biker. Otherwise the whole place was my playground. Bugs got bad starting at around 11am. I was able to un-run them on the middle control climb, but on the way back I got mobbed on the climb out of the post office loop.

The stats on my SART ride were certainly not impressive, but the ride was exactly what my soul needed. Really gave me a chance to decompress and finally process all of the Sh!t show that has occurred since the start of this whole thing. 20mi/2400/3 hours

On sunday, I squeezed a little whiting/stt/luge action in. Started early to beat the crowds and glad that we did. Whiting was a disaster area when we dropped back into it to head to the car. Still a great morning on the bike.

SART sounds like a good escape.

Whiting....not so much.

I think the SART is THE SoCal destination right now!

I've only had positive interactions at the store or restaurant.

Let's do it. I have been contemplating SART or Skyline since last week. SART it is.
Someone to show us around would be nice .... :cautious:
And probably to help us figure out the shuttle? Not sure how it all works. If only there were people on this forum who could help explain the best way to go about it. Oh @scan? @Tom the Bomb?

I'll show ya....but no shuttle needed. The total loop is only 3300' of climbing.
