Rode Strawberry Peak with rossage, hill^billy, and burt!
We rode 17.1mi with an elevation gain of 3,245ft. It's the 2nd time I have ever ridden Strawberry. The 1st time was last year when it finally reopened after the Fire Closure. I bonked the first time. It was hot and I was going through a short period where I was not eating right. So this time I was ready for it and I kicked that bee-otches azz! Oh, and rossage got a flat (sidewall tear) on his lame azz 29'er. Put a tube in it which in turn burst on the seam while pumping it up.

Meanwhile, I'm sitting on the side of trail about a mile and a half down stream. So I start riding back up the trail to find rossage doing the "Walk of shame". So I give him a REAL MAN'S TUBE (A 26'er) We stretch it in, throw in a sidewall boot, and I let him use a REAL MAN's Trail Pump. We finished the ride aND HAD A AWESOME TIME......! Yeah...I rode my bike today!

OH! And there was a Mike and Robin Mc"G" sighting on the trail...yes a very young couple in ranger shirts (Robin looked hot in uniform  ) up doing trail maintenance. She patted burt on his azz (I was totally jealous!) That couple is awesome!

Ya after doing Koko you can ride across the damn U.S ! Pce next sat? Last one of the season! Bet I beat your ass to the wash!!!!! :o

19.1 miles, 2,700 feet or so elevation gain. Up GMR, down Lower Monroe TT. Not looking to set any records, had a blast with it. Actual Ride Report coming later, with pics. That trail is fun.

If we're starting a pool, I'll take Mikie by a minute and a half! Unless there's some crazy downhills, then maybe Mr. Bomb by a hair...

We rode up Monroe TT on Saturday to check out the TOC....we got up there so early, we decided to drop down the road on the other side of GMR, down to the Correctional Facility, then back up.

Had done MTT quite a few times, but first time down the fireroad....pretty good climb back up. I liked it.

What is really funny is that we beat some roadies up the KOM 2 by climbing MTT.

...rossage got a flat (sidewall tear) ...

If you recall, I also had a sidewall tear on my morning ride up the front range to meet you guys at Switzers, and had to install my only tube... Well, after parting ways at redbox I regretted not bumming an extra tube off you, as I incurred a pinch flat half way down middle merrill, and had to hike/coast back down the front range. The almost consistent reliability of the tubeless setup has made me complacent; clearly, a good patch-kit is something I should be carrying on every ride.

Was invited to go ride with my LBS owner up in Big Bear. We loaded the bikes onto his Prius(his) early(6am), got there around 7:45. Skyline was the target ride. 1st time for both of us. We would not be disappointed. The trail was moist and the berms were firm. 22/2500+ later we ended our journey with huge smiles. There was a small amount of snow in a few places and the air was cold. Definitely want to do this trail many more times in the future.

Lower and Upper Holy Jims. Cool, overcast, humid. Brutal climb as usual... 6.5 mi 3400ft up, then mostly all down. UHJ has gotten pretty rutty and droppy thanks to the rains, quite the challenge. Down LHJ is like flying (I tried to find a clip of the scene from the Robbin Williams film World According to Garp where he turns off the car and glides down into his driveway, but they were all marked "for mature audiences only". We had a happy ending without crashes, but many hikers).

I rode both days this weekend:

Saturday.....was supposed to volunteer for Non Dot Race at Aliso, but that was postponed, so I joined a buddy and we headed off to Glendora to check out the Tour of California up on Glendora Mtn Rd. Up Monroe Truck Trail to KOM 2. We were a couple of hours early, so we dropped down the fire road across the road from the top of Monroe TT....8 miles down...8 miles back up. 10 minutes after we got to the top, we were able to see the race drop down Glendora Ridge Road down East Fork, then 1 hour later they came back around up Glendora Mtn Rd.

33 miles / 5100'

Today was Big Ride Sunday....planned a different route. Ride buddy had a short window, and I didn't want to be gone all day, so I altered my route. Still ended up being gone a good portion of the day....but didn't have to ride by myself as much. Not all that exciting....just miles and elevation. Blacstar/Skyline/Sierra Peak/Blackstar/Santiago Canyon/Oaks/IRP.

73 miles / 9100'

I see you opted for an all Holy Jim ride rather than HJ -> Trabuco!

I too altered my plans and just ended up joining The Path's Shop ride at Aliso on Sunday morning. I've been riding Aliso a ton as of late and I'm pining for some new dirt, but I haven't ridden with those guys in awhile (the Tustin shop versus the Live Oak shop) and it was good to catch up with some of the regulars I used to ride with a bunch in the fall/winter of last year.

I did get to check out the 5 oaks trail work and it was very noticeable along the trail. My thanks to everyone that does trailwork and gives back!

I rode Itchi Scratchy and Webb canyon today. One of the coolest rides in a long time. As Kurt, Tim and I began the steep tight descent down Itchy I quickly realized the dew and rain in the morning was still being cradled by the heavy brush and bushes on the trail . Every time I brushed a bush the water that was being cradled was dumped on me. After a about a quarter mile I was drenched head to toe! Really cool. I had only experienced this one other time about 15 years ago. I could only laugh. Awesome!

Nice Tom, send the big guy out first to collect all the water off the brush :) I had that happen once on Joplin a couple years ago... it was fairly cold and my fingers all turned white and I couldn't feel the brake levers, so had to stop allot to get the circulation going again. I wished for some dry gloves and then send someone else out first. :-P

Brahhhh that is what the guys said! All I had to do was make a fist to wring the water out. Lucky it was not to cold.

Took my bike into work today and carved out an hour at lunch to go riding in Aliso. Nothing special, just rode to Canyon View park, up Cholla, down Rock-It, and then back out Canyon view park.

I usually don't hit Rock-It that fresh (as I usually enter the park from the Church side), and I obliterated my PR on the full Rock-IT DH segment by a whopping 30s. While Herz may chide me for Strava'ing, I'm TRYING to go faster in preparation for the Aliso race and/or to get more and more comfortable in pushing the envelope. So in this case Strava is merely the record of the pre-existing motivation :P I know I'm a slow climber, so eking out what speed I can on Rock-It is one of the few advantages I have for this race.

The nice thing is, I know I can go faster too. There were a few turns that I bled too much speed off, I could have pedaled more in the upper section, etc.

Continual personal growth, one of the hidden gems about MTB'ing for me. The first time I ever did Rock-It last year, it took me 11:25 to get down it. Today I did it in 4:59.

Cougar are you doing the 1-2 foot step up and over at the little rise just after the rock section, instead of going around to the right? That saves a bunch of time if you can master it and be in the right gear to power up over the rocks. Herz is good at it, I get it right every once in awhile.

No I'm not, I'm doing the cheater line to the right still there. I should practice that more, that's a good idea.

Early morning ride up Skyline down Troy Lee trails. It was supper cold up at Beeks so didn't keep pushing up MD got in 14 miles and 3000 feet gain.

I have been wanting to do this ride but can get a taker to join me. If you don't mind let me know the next time you planning on doing this loop I'm in Riverside so not far from you.

Nothing special... Just a quick climb up Live Oak in O'Neill and then out to the Luge... :-)

I kept thinking of Tom the Bomb's report the other day about the water... Although it wasn't raining at the lower level in O'Neill, I rode right into a rain cloud on STT, and it seemed like every bush wanted to dump an extra 1/2 gallon on me. When I looked down at my Garmin, it said 47 degrees! When I got back to O'Neill, it was back up to a balmy 57.

Will be going up there a few times this summer, I will keep you posted.

I rode here today, above the clouds. First ride in a few weeks. Did about 20 miles and 3Hz units. Honestly, I did not ride very well, and ended up cramping on the final climb. Oh well, it was a beautiful day and I got back on my bike for only the second time in May. The altitude usually doesn't bother me, but I think it contributed to my lethargic riding. More tomorrow!

+1 on scottay having an awesome ride! That thing is flat out beautiful! My Yeti is jealous! :o

@herz, that's a nice pic, where are you at?

Paparazzi driving you crazy again? ;)

I want to hide from IMTB riders who have expectations that I can actually ride.

I hate big jumps, but I like riding my DH bike. Does that help with my location?
