I Rode My Bike Today...

Solo wandering around the San Gab's. Ended up with a cruise to Echo Mtn. from JPL. Up Fern there was a conga line of newb riders. I felt like going slow anyway. Past the EP turnoff, seemed I had the place to myself. That asphalt climb on Sunset Ridge is a bitch. Never been. Hung out at the ruins for a tad. Down Sunset to El Prieto. Lots of hikers out and about. Took it cautiously. Made it out safe but my G-form knee pad got torn brushing up against a down tree. Still a great day on the bike. 19/3600

Better the pads than your knee!

Not too shabby of a time out there in the CNF! I live for riding new dirt, and this this itched that need and then some!. The temps were warmer than expected, that or I just was putting out more energy than expected! Maple Springs is a fantastic climb, although pretty long! I'm in slow(er) mode, so took Main Divide pretty cautiously on the downs, and survived the ups. And Motorway... wow. It's like riding on a totally different mountain from where we came out. It wasn't as loose as I was expecting, but nonetheless I took it pretty slow. I wonder how much of my rear pads are left!?!?!? The only drama was near the bottom where my hands were getting really tired from braking... I was told that letting go of the brakes would remedy that. Really I just didn't want to have a corner named after me! Thanks for showing me the loop, S & J!!!

I couldn't quit Strava today! https://www.strava.com/activities/2007276442

The need for tacos was implanted in my head, so the entire drive home I could only think of one thing...

Yes, as @Mikie and @CBone have said, it was absolute magic dirt out there today. The traction was insane. I rode faster than usual with less brakes than usual. My bike and planet Earth were ONE.

Good riding with you guys!

Is there anything worse than getting a new bike, then watching the earths dirt become velcro, and not being able to experience it? I don’t think so!

Then it starts. You remember that friend you had when you were 12? You know, the one who got you into trouble all the time. Like when it was getting dark and you said that you needed to go home because your Mom said you needed to be home before the street lights came on. And your friend said "Its already dark and the lights are on so you are already in trouble so stay". Well, apparently Mikie is that guy:eek:. "You are already in trouble Tony. How much more trouble can you get into if you stay a little longer?" And, he used the chicken strategy with me - in a nice way without calling me that. "Oh come on Tucker, you can do it. Its just a cruzer. We will wait for you."

Tony also got some advise on how to sooth an upset wife. Apparently, rubbing a woman's feet resolves everything. Who knew it was so simple:rolleyes:. Any of you riding sisters care to confirm? :whistling::D
So if Cathy is reading this, if Mikie comes home and rubs your feet do you wonder why you should be mad at him?:sneaky:
Incidentally.... I colored Cathy’s hair when I got home! :whistling:

It's Sunday so I rode my (wife's) bike with Rusty. Today was different though, we talked Nick in to going with us. Nick hasn't been on his bike much lately so Rusty promised to take it easy on him. He's been doing a lot of running though and it paid off big time today on the climb up Sloan canyon behind the house. He pedaled all the way up .

Dang kid is growing up too fast.

He pretended to like the ride.

But then he found a stick and told me what he really thought.:Roflmao

You come home from a thankless week of OT days and find a note from your wife that reads I'm sorry – it's over. You can keep the dishes and silver settings, I took your new bike. My new guy rides harder than you, is better looking, and is your exact size. And he doesn't always get lost. And he doesn't snore.

So, yea. I'm okay with missing some hero dirt. :geek:

Went out for the Black Star Ugly Sweater ride and possibly a little extra. My bike was doing fine, the motor was having trouble getting going. I got to the tree farm about 0815, and to the gate at 0828. Ride started at 0830. Saw @Grego @Faust29 @BonsaiNut @Vince the Trail Slayer and others whose names are escaping me.

I was not intending to do a fast ride. I achieved that goal.

Got to Beeks, waited a bit to see if anyone else was going farther, and Steve and I headed on to Motorway. Main Divide is in pretty good shape, but a few areas are getting slippery and there were several puddles, all avoidable. One of us didn't quite gauge the surface correctly on one, but no real damage done. :p The views along Main Divide were the usual great stuff.

Motorway is downright fun these days. I was not endangering anyone's PRs (including mine) but we were moving along pretty good. Then I heard a hissing noise, and the front end got wobbly. My front tire was flatter than a pancake; sliced the sidewall in two spots at once. Dang, I'm good. Pulled the tire, tried to pump up my tube and it's no good. I just checked it not long ago.:bang: Luckily, Steve had a 27.5 tube he was willing to let me use. Crossed fingers it was good or it was gonna be a long walk to the car. :gag: Booted it, got the tube in, took it easy the last 3/4 mile down Motorway and back to the tree farm.

Great day, great company, great ride.

At least she apologized.

Started with the ugly sweater group headed up the mountain... @Grego , Vincent, @BeckTrex , @Derek13 , who now knows that I'm really bad with faces. We'll have to ride a few more times.

Mark and I hit Beeks, and hung out for a bit to see if Grego made it up. @BonsaiNut joined us for a bit... When we saw Vincent go by headed for the ball, we continued up. Vincent wasn't feeling a bigger ride today, so Mark and I continued on... Slow going across Main Divide. Lots of chatting...

Mark was having a decent run down Motorway...

And then the Motorway ninja rocks reached out and sliced his sidewalls...

Motorway is always fun, and it's in its chunkier form right now after the rains...

25 miles and 4200 feet...

Went up and checked the condition of the recently graded fire roads. The rain has packed them down nicely. Found a couple of caves that have revealed themselves after the fires. Also the wild grass is already coming back. Nothing spectacular but fun nonetheless.
24.5 miles
3.956 feet
Numbers are approximate as I didn't use Strava. :whistling:

Ugly Sweater Ride. Originally planned on adding in Motorway as well but at the last minute Vincent wanted to go. He's been sick for a few days but needed to get a small ride in to recoup. Sorry on Motorway guys.:( Still had a great time meeting up and riding with so many I haven't seen in a long time. Weather was okay, no horrific winds this year. The climb goes by quick on these social rides. Regrouped at the Doppler. We hit all 7 single tracks back down. What a blast!!! The last one everyone was hesitant so I lead the group down. Smiles and WTF's at the end of that one. Good times!

Really? Of course I know it gets worse, I’m just being selfishly human. :sneaky:

Glad you could repair the tire and ride it out! I don't carry a tube, and I worry about that. That's because I probably have more than 50 goathead points broken off in each tire, so as soon as I put a tube in, it would be punctured by those little spikes. If I ever get a sidewall slice like that, I'm SOL for a walk.

Noble Cyn with 5 buds today. @Sidewalk and @Varaxis were present. Epic conditions, wet dirt and very cool weather. We climbed the rd then did a lap around the pond up top. Then came the fun drop down. Lots of hootin and hollerin. New dirt for most, not me or Varaxis our 2nd. All killed it no real issues. Smiles around and tired dudes at the end. Those rock gardens are longer and more numerous than I remembered. Looking forward to another trip in the spring.
