I Rode My Bike Today...

Took a test ride down the arroyo after picking my bike up from JRA. Fork and shock feel like buttah. I'll fine tune tomorrow on the Ottobeerfest. I know. Not much but at least I rode.

Saw the all clear from OC Parks on twitter for Whiting and the hangover (its always that last tequila shot) had resided enough for me to venture out for a Whiting / Luge run this afternoon. Awesome weather for it and amazing to see what a difference a day makes to the ground! A huge thumbs up to the guys doing a bit of trail repair on the Luge. Did the run down Cactus and then went back up above the horse place to come down Vulture View. Last time I was here I stopped using it because it was so powdery but today it was verging on the sublime. Pretty happy with 16.5 miles and 2500ft in under 2 hours, especially considering the fragile state I was in!
Planning to wake up early and do a Maple Springs Motorway run in the morning. Just need to keep the beer consumption under control tonight :D

Well... I was limited to a local ride today. With everything still pretty wet, I headed for Maple Springs and Motorway. Thankfully we have something local that can be ridden in the rain.

Pulled into the little turnout about 1/2 mile before the gate and was greeted with temps in the upper 30s. It was definitely chilly on the way up the pavement, but it went by pretty quickly. It helped that I played leap frog with another rider.

Some rockfall in several spots on the pavement, but nothing too big...

At the end of the pavement, I took a quick break to lose the windbreaker, and chat with a third rider who was hanging out watching the water flow. "Are you Faust?" "Uh... Yeah, that's me." R... is not on the forum, but lurks a lot. We chatted for the next mile or so... After R... pulled over to shed some layers, I continued up, and ended up catching my leap frog partner before Four Corners. He continued on to Motorway, and we kept playing leapfrog all the way across Main Divide.

There was frost in the grass for the last mile or so below Four Corners, and the temps were upper 30s and low 40s the entire time. Thankfully there was no wind.

First frost of the season...

The recent grading on Main Divide has left most of it vulnerable to water flow. With all of the rock gone, the ruts are going to get deep fast with any significant rainfall.

Motorway... Is torn up. The water has created some ruts here and there, and moved the rocks around. It's like a new trail... rougher than the old version. I know it will get smoothed out again soon enough, but with the new 30mm wheels and the Minions, it was a riot. I might have still gone for last week's PR, even with the ruts, but there were hordes of hikers today. I didn't want to be the Stravasshole.

Lots of hikers today...

17 miles and 3600 feet...
What time if morning was your ride? Headed up Harding tomorrow morning early. Thanks

Waited for it to warm up a bit, and was still not certain where I was riding when I got in the car. As I got on the 91 I made up my mind.

Parked at the Green River bike path parking, took off up Green River. Right on Skyline, left at the radio towers to the ball, then Sierra Peak and down Coal Canyon. Couple miles on the bike path put me back at the car.

Really nice few hours on the bike!!

Edit - some serious ruttage going on on Coal Canyon. It was the worst of them. Everything else held up really well in the rain.

Made it out to Tehachapi Saturday for the 6hr Santa Claus gran prix, it was cold, windy, and snow started falling when we were heading home, still was a great time. I'm in no way a racer so it's a struggle to put in max effort for a lap, me and my team each got four laps done and think that put us in 6th place. This was my second year in a row and definitely do it again

Had one of those weeks where I didn't get my regular hiit workouts in, so I figured some climbing was in order to make up for it.

Rolled from home, up Monrovia canyon to white saddle, then hit the silver fish truck trail to Van Tassel, Down to Duarte and then streets back to old town pizza in Monrovia for a couple slices.

That descent into Duarte really got the brakes burning, I think close to 3000 ft in 4 miles? Avg grade at least 20%. Mucho respect for the guy climbing it...

Really surprised that I saw as many people the whole way. Rider and trail runner s. One must have hustled because I met him just before mt bliss, then again as I was trekking through monrovia on the way home. We gave each other the nod of respect and carried on.

I was counting on doing some trailwork today, but my trail guru was wiped out from yesterday, nobody from LCF was doing anything, and I can't go dig on my own lest I get ticketed for vandalism, sooooooo....

Mundane ride on my usual trails. Nothing really to report. Fun dirt. Fast descents. No crowd (10:30-1:30). Bike was great.

17 miles. 2700'. Bikes are fun! Well-tuned bikes on uncrowded trails with hero dirt are even more funner-er.  :)

I leisurely pedaled from my buddy’s place over to Gridley trail, having breakfast en route.

I was curious about Prisoners, a short out-back I saw on Trailforks, near the start of Gridley. So a mile or two from the top I decided to descend and do Prisoners. It’s had all kinds of work done, jumps and berms, but the fire looks to have taken a toll on it. Still fun for a suspension check but I’d say tame for double black. Gridley was, of course, in primo shape. (What of it I did.) LPNF, always gets a piece of my heart...

Tough to leave SoCal...the friends and the riding make it a awesome place. Thanks again to my Hightower brothers, all five, you know who you are, for making time for (and facilitating!) trailage.:notworthy::)

High five on your rides and safe travels back to those beautiful mtns!

Tiger is sooooo much fun! Which way did you go down after east summit? (Vicarious stoke)
From the summit we usually hit OTG, then climb up the gravel road and take it to a connector trail that connects to inside passage to EBAD then northwest timber to Legend and Megafauna then Northwest timber and finish with Lower Predator! When was the last time you rode here? Inside passage, EBAD and NOTG (not OTG) are relatively new and absolutely killer!

That is a great loop! Last spin up there was mid August...I did get a chance to do NOTG but ran out of time for EBAD. Inside passage is such a nice addition, especially in winter months!

Love Legend and Megafauna too...I always liked to finish with lower Predator as well...that last section flows so well (chunky flow)!

I can’t even imagine what that whole area is gonna be like once they officially connect Tiger and Raging!

My Bro and fam live like 25 min from there and Duthie....

Right on! Hit me up next time out here. I live in Maple Valley so close to Tiger BDOS Raging Tokul and Duthie.
