Whaaaaaaa?????
Guess I've become too used to the squishy bits on the rear end and a dropper post..........
Whaaaaaaa?????
Had an opening for a quick early lunch ride today and took it! Since I just converted the Tranny back to a SS, I decided to take it out for a shakedown run at Oaks. It was a bit warmer than I thought it would be. Sure doesn't feel like February 1st. The bike worked flawlessly. Can't say the same for my SS legs. Didn't have much time so I just parked at Oaks and did 3 B's, down Yucca, up Bumblebee to Goat, up 3 B's again and down Peralta. 5 miles, 1,125 feet. Was able to clean all of the climbs on the SS, but did walk a section or two going down Peralta. It was a nice break from staring at the computer screen.

Got my fork dialed in also. life is good.
Feeling really, unnaturally tired. Exhausted at work, and a really sloooowwww ride this afternoon. Still, it beats the alternative!

Must be it!!!It’s all those bigger rides you’ve been putting up lately!
It's this damned Super Blue Blood Moon!
This full moon is "closer to the Earth than the usual full moon" (a Super Moon). Remember what TTB said in his night ride report? He's right, it's close. It's pull on our gravity is effecting everything from tides to the way we feel. I have friends that I chat with across the country on a daily basis. They are all feeling it. Increased aches, weakness, and general grumpiness. Give it til the end of the weekend and then we should all feel a lil better. BTW, I'm feeling it, too. The worst thing for me is that I can't sleep worth a damn during any full moon.
Science class, adjourned...
Like Luis said I also made it to the ethos ride, big group showed up and riding at night is a blast. The ethos light is really solid they're definitely worth the money, I've owned one for awhile and James the guy who makes them always had one ready for me to use before I bought it, he's a cool dude and a good rider, worth looking at if in the market for a lightNever ridden Tapia canyon at night. Saw a post on the SCV mountain bike group FB site about a night ride. It was hosted by Ethos Components. The deal was show up early and take a Ethos light out for a spin. What a great way to get a group night ride going! I saw at least 25 riders converge at the animal shelter, including @Postal Pat.
If you haven’t heard of Ethos check out these local home brewed lights!

I did some extra mileage with Kevin who showed me some new trails (to me) on the south side of Tapia.
20.2 miles
2927 elevation
Ten cold toes
@Runs with Scissors, was the gate closed today?
Lots of free time waiting on my daughters high school speech stuff...
More ebikes...
A guy in my group even had one...
Opinion changing..
1st ebiker..Knee surgery..no riding..got ebike to get back on the saddle...
2nd ebiker.. looked like a 60 plus old guy riding w a group
3rd ebiker...passed us on one of the ridges..slight up hill yelled out on ur left to our group as she blew passed us...
Ummm...
Im just a friendly guy..she was not friendly....
Dont start.. e bikes r here....
What can i say? I agree..1. Lots of people come back from knee surgery.
2. Did 60 miles for 60th Bday ride a few months back....he kicked all our asses on a SS.

Holy Jim up and back with Kevin and Nate. I used to ride with Kevin a lot, then over the last two years, life just sort of happened and we didn't cross paths much. Now I've ridden with him about five times in the last three weeks. He's a good rider. A docent and a skills instructor. I also haven't even seen my friend Nathan since November. Again, life happens.
So we crammed into Kevin's Tacoma (with extra cab, but not back seat) and plowed on up to the Holy Jim Trailhead. I have ridden HJ exactly once (as a part of the HJ/Trabuco loop). About ten years ago. Not my favorite kind of riding, and quite a distance from home. But, I gave in to peer pressure. It didn't suck.
Beautiful day out there. The lower rock gardens and creek crossings were a challenge - especially up. The switchbacky part was fine and the rest of the climb was ok. Only a few flies at the top of the hike a bike at Pain Divide. We rode out a little on Main Divide - about a mile or so - just to get a view. Then we came back and headed down HJ. I've never ridden down the trail. The top drop in was interesting. Not too hard except the initial gap between the rock and tree. Next time, I'll just go over the rock. The rest of the DH was meh. Fun, but not exciting. Similar to San Juan, but easier. A bit of loose rock to keep you honest. I am sure glad someone had cut back the branches recently. That trail would not be fun with vegetation encroachment. So thanks for that. The switchbacks were kind of a fun challenge that I don't do much. Not real difficult, but entertaining. The rock gardens and creek crossings were definitely more fun this direction (although I walked some of the creek crossings out of an abundance of caution).
Nate and I opted to ride out Trabuco wash rather than be tossed around in Kevin's truck. Then it was breakfast burritos.
Fun morning doing something different. Confirmed that it's not my favorite kind of riding, but it was absolutely beautiful.
I think it was about 2500' of climbing. 16.3 miles including finishing out the wash.
Bikes are fun. Good times with good friends.
Thanks. The HJ climb was plenty challenging, so I'm not looking for more challenge in that direction. I think @Cougar and I are going to do the HJ/Trabuco loop next weekend. He wants to get primed for that St. George event.Nice ride!
The next time you give in to peer pressure, I recommend an out and back on Trabuco instead of HJ. The climb is in the same ballpark as far as stats, but the looseness makes it a little more difficult and probably a HAB section or two. It's also more scenic... You'll see fewer people, and the trail is a much better descent than HJ. With the speed you carry, you might even find some pucker factor.
