- Love the mountains. I get some kind of magic inspiration from pine trees, lakes, and high altitude fresh air. I used to be an avid snow skier, spent a few years as a ski bum in south lake tahoe
but everything changed in 2001 when I took a big ski jump and missed any transition, landing flat on icy hardpack. Crushed both my heels (calaneus) inside my boots more than 50 pieces each. shattered. Was told may not walk again. long story short, I got lots of metal in my feet and I don't like any bit of Hike a Bike. can't run. can't jump. zero impact. If it wasn't for mountain biking, I don't know what I would do to keep from going insane.
